They are surprisingly wide spread, Terry.
The Wensum and UEA Broad has had Red - Eared Sliders & European Pond Turtles for many years (as Dudley & Tabs point out, usually dumped when owners got fed up with them).
Fortunately they are slow breeders because they are not great news for other pond life - partial to dragonfly nymphs, tadpoles, etc.

Regards, Neil

Dudley is correct Terry, in the past when Ninja Turtles were all the rage everybody wanted the real thing, the trouble is they grow, make their aquarium smelly etc etc., they then got dumped into the nearest river, ditch or pond and survived our mild winters, hence we now have lots of alien turtles. Great picture though
